For those of you who know of Melbourne rapper Tom Gaynor a.k.a Allday, you would most likely know that he has an album soon to be released on July 4th, and he also really, really loves his fans, so Allday put up on Instagram, a competition, allowing 40 dedicated fans to go for a ride around Sydney with him and listen to his new album. I made a huge effort to win this, photo-shopping my head onto his body and doing all I could, but it wasn’t enough and I didn’t get a spot, although, on a brisk Tuesday morning, my friend Connor was unbelievably luckily to score some spare passes on twitter and off we went, to hang out with King Alldeezy for the day.
We all huddled around a bus-stop anticipating the moment when Tom popped out of the bus, checked our names and we began the ride, along with some pre-trip photos with Tom and in front of the signature backdrop for his album cover. The first dilemma was, what do you call Allday in a conversation? Like he’s an nationally renowned artist, so Tom sounds too casual, but Allday sounds too formal for a guy your sharing a bus with, I settled on Tom. Now as for the music, I can’t reveal too much as it hasn’t been released yet, but the least I could say about “Cult” is stunning, nearly every song had a story behind it whether it was the wackos he collaborated with on the songs, or what the lyrics meant, which ranged from bongs, sex, to childhood. He shows a lot of experimentation with this album from throwing down fast and clean verses to a little bit of singing in one of the tracks.
After listening to a few more tracks, and weaving down through Oxford Street, Bondi Beach, Edgecliff we made a stop on George street to indulge in vegan burgers at Lord of The Fries, which is quite suiting as he is a passionate vegan, by the way, vegan bacon is probably the best tasting thing in the world, we then proceeded to get some more photos, recorded a birthday wish for our friend Alby, then drove down the rest of the city winding down to the thrilling tracks, until it all came to an end outside Central Station. All in all, I really don’t think I could express in words how unreal the experience was and how grateful myself and the other riders were. Cheers Alldeezy
