Australia music promoter AJ Maddah has pulled out his 50% share of the Big Day Out music festival leaving Australia’s longest running touring music festival in the hands of US-based company C3 Presents, according to Music Feeds who cite newly obtained documents from, presumably, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).
Maddah predominantly known for running Soundwave, bought into the Big Day Out in September 2013 following on from it’s original promoters Ken West and Vivian Lee long running feud and public split in late 2011, and buy in by US promoters C3 presents in January 2012.
If the documents are to be believed, Maddah and his wife Jo transferred their 50 percent stake of Big Day Out over to C3 presents on June 4, with Maddah stepping down as Big Day Out director.
As what this means for Big Day Out’s future is unclear at the moment. It was pretty clear for anyone attending this year’s instalment of the festival that crowd numbers were noticeable smaller. It’s alleged that the poor ticket sales have put the company between $8 million - $15 million in debt, according to a Fairfax Media report.
