Bathed in dim sanguine lighting, Bloods are compressed into the corner of Black Wire Records on an obscure Friday evening, consumed by a sparse crowd of mostly drunken 20-something year olds. The charming local garage-punk trio delivered a handful of tunes from their upcoming debut album, including their latest single, “Want it,” a garage-pop gem immersed in fuzzy guitar distortions and crisp drum patterns. MC and Sweetie’s corresponding vocal lines cruised upon the shore of vigorous melodies and jangly rhythms, easing the resounding audience into an ocean of anticipation for the main act.
Bad//Dreems appear from the blood red illuminate of the shadows to the ovation of an eager audience in the cramped venue, swelled to the brink of capacity. The crowd shrouded over the band, rock patrons raised onto various pieces of furniture scattered across the venue to acquire a decent view of the Adelaide four-piece. The set featured the band’s classic “Hoping For,” “Caroline,” and headlining single, “Dumb Ideas” sending the frenzied crowd into a state of garage-rock indulgence. Dirty guitar lines and punchy drum patterns along with Ben Marwe’s stressed vocals set a rapid driving momentum throughout the set as aggressive punters howled the anthemic lyrics into the atmosphere, shoving one another in an abrasive fashion, body heat leaving a foggy residue upon the glass windows of the venue. Ben flies into the sea of people, swallowed up by the crowd. Bad//Dreems are crowd surfing a wave of endless vibes and aren’t ready to dry off just yet.
