Angus and Julia Stone are one of our all time favourite brother and sister duos and rightfully so. We were a bit concerned when they went their separate ways after the release of Down the Way in 2010, but after producing top notch solo albums, (Angus with Broken Brights and Julia with By the Horns both released in 2012) the family duo are back at it! This time with a self-titled record coming out later this year. While their solo stuff gave us nothing to complain about, we are super stoked that they’re back singing on the same songs again!
The pair have released a hint of what is to come with the release of their single Hearts Beats Slow. A perfect Angus and Julia tune, this song is a great mix of the pathways that they each went down with their solo work from last year. It’s a classic Angus and Julia song; the drums, guitar licks, harmonies, you name it. It seems a bit quicker than a lot of their earlier stuff but it works very nicely! It’s that familiar comforting sound Angus and Julia pull off time and time again; they complement each other like tommy sauce goes on hot chips. It’s a sound we’ve all missed, and if the album can produce other songs as good as this, I’m sure it’s a sound we will be hearing for a long time!
If you are lucky enough to get to Splendour this year, their two piece set is sure to be a standout...and just days before the release of the new album! If not though, fingers crossed that the release of the album will be accompanied by a couple of all age shows that are sure to be insanely good! If you haven’t already checked their latest track Heart Beats Slow, grab a copy and see what the fuss is all about!
You can catch them live at Splendour In The Grass if you managed to get tickets.
