10 tips for Big Day Out

One of the best festivals in the country is quickly approaching and we're EXCITED BECAUSE IT'S GOING TO BE SMASHING. Big Day Out started as a one-night show in 1992 at the Hordern Pavillion with amazing acts playing like Violent Femmes, Beasts Of Bourbon and Nirvana. In the months leading up to the original festival a little ol' legendary album called Nevermind was released and became an international success. Ever since then BDO has been well... Big.

17 kick ass Aussie acts will be playing Big Day Out this Australia Day, with 26 A-class international performers coming across the ocean to make musics for your ears.

Here are some tips to help you brave the big ol' day:

1. Take an empty water bottle. Any liquids will probs be confiscated or tipped out on entry so don't take a bunch of drinks because they'll all just end up going home with a lucky security guard. There are re-fill stations all around the festival and make sure you stay hydrated, no one likes having heat stroke at a music festival (plus everyone will judge you and think you're on drugs).

2. Plan what acts you want to see in advance and if you can, set alarms in your phone for 10 minutes before and starts and what stage it's at.

3. Get your moneys worth: see as many bands as you can.

4. Slip Slop Slap! But don't slap, also try not to be physically violent because everyone will hate you.

5. If you see the toilets without a line go even if you don't have to. Trust me, those porta-shitholes are not worth waiting for so get in quick.

6. DON'T WEAR A ONE-PIECE OUTFIT, that includes jumpsuits, onesies and prison uniforms, mainly just because if you need to go to the toilet, it's going to be pretty hard to get out of it. Also if you wear a onesie everyone is going to think you're an asshole.

7. HAVE A GREAT AUSTRALIA DAY!

8. If you want to take a bag but you don't want to carry it around, get it cloaked, and if you think you're going to buy merch, buy it asap when you get there and put it in your bag before you cloak it. ENJOY YOUR DAY.

9. Take a whole lot of patience. You'll be waiting in lots of lines and walking through devastatingly slow crowds of people and you're going to get fed up pretty quickly but stay calm because everyone else is dealing with the same bullshit.

10. HAVE FUN!!!

We have a whole team heading to the festival which is super exciting, and we'll be interviewing artists and taking photos for your eyes to look at. We'll be in AACS shirts so if you see us come say hi and we can give you a lil' something!
