Stepping into the Factory Theatre on the 2nd of January, was quite lovely. After a tour hiccup, the British babes, Bombay Bicycle Club, cancelled their show at the Enmore on the 7th and rescheduled to the 2nd at the Factory. It was a good move. The smaller venue gave the show an intimacy that the Enmore couldn’t beat.

The Paper Kites hail from the faraway lands of Melbourne, Victoria. Their enticing folky melodies have a innocent sweetness, that creates a fresh bliss. Their harmonies and light instrumentation creates a musical fairyland. Under a lap steel bridge, past a banjo and through a forest of cartwheel mallets, stood The Paper Kites. All aglow in their indie folk beauty, the Paper Kites proved that they are truly talented musicians

Bombay Bicycle Club are extremely well-acquainted with performance. These fabulous british boys brought boundless buoyancy to the Factory stage. Kicking off their set with the seductive track, ‘Beg’, they had the attention of even the drunkest punters in the theatre. “Your Eyes” and “Dust On The Ground” took off, and the crowd soared with them. Part way through the set, Jack Steadman announced that sadly, this would be the final tour of “A Different Kind Of Fix” but they were happy to be doing it in Australia. This year is going to be a good one for Bombay Bicycle Club, with the recording and release of their 4th studio album, and hopefully another tour to Australia. I know every single person there will go to see them again. After the show you didn’t have to eavesdrop to get a general gist of the crowd’s opinion. Teenagers were yelling out about how mindblown they were, and all the obscene things they wanted to do to the members of the band and even the older crowd members were outwardly pleased. Their tremendous music had conjured a great exuberance that stayed with every punter as they left the venue, as they drove home, as they got in bed, and as they woke up the next morning, doubting the reality of the previous night

Bombay Bicycle Club were equalled by their sensational support, The Paper Kites, and the Factory Theatre is one of the best venues in New South Whales. A great night, with great music, and a great audience.
