Deep Sea Arcade at the Metro 30/11/12 - Live Review

Fishing started off the night. Their repetitive electro-music was enjoyable for some, but it was a flat beginning to the night.

The Preatures came on stage with a striking confidence. Their music is so unique, and so are their live shows. Gideon, Isabella Jack, Thomas and Luke, make up this fascinating band. They have a young, raw energy which revitalises the mature style of their music. Isabella and Gideon both bring this extraordinary balance of male and female influences to their music. Isabella has an experienced vocal timbre, it is strong and like velvet, comparable, if not better than that of the iconic Mama Cass. Gideon is a vocal powerhouse, it’s rich, seductive and practically overwhelming. The alternating energies are mind blowing.

Unlike any other band out there today, The Preatures are one of the most promising bands on the scene.

The Preatures are a hard band to follow, but Deep Sea Arcade attempted it anyways.

For a Friday night at the Metro, the audience wasn’t as good as I expected. Nevertheless, their instrument-focused music was catchy and fun. They continue to put out delightful records. School mates, Nic and Nick started off making music in high school. The history and chemistry of their songwriting is clearly shown through their music. On recording, and even on paper, Deep Sea Arcade are a great band.

The show was entertaining. Nick, the Bass player, has an a phenomenal, intense energy. He seems so focused whilst playing, but he’ll still have laughs with the other players during the show. The spirit of his performance gives their whole set a powerful vibrance. The lighting fabulous, with mixtures of rich colours, purples and greens, blues and reds. The show was good, however, Nic seemed to have too much auto tuning on. It flattened out his voice, and it was almost a foreign sound when compared to their records, he could’ve just had a bad night, but it certainly wasn’t and unerring performance. He really could’ve used some more interesting banter in-between songs and a larger variation of movements. Overall, it was an enjoyable night. Despite flaws, Deep Sea Arcade are a splendid band.

7/10
